Angel fangs piercing

Angel fangs are a pair of vertical labret piercings on the upper lip, one on each side, so the jewelry sits like two small fangs. Here's what they are, what they cost at Baron Art, how much they hurt, and how they heal.

What it is

What are angel fangs?

An angel fangs piercing is two vertical labret piercings placed on the upper lip, one either side of the philtrum (the groove under the nose). Each piercing enters at the edge of the lip and exits on the skin just above it, so a curved barbell shows a bead on the lip and a bead above it. Together the two barbells look like fangs.

On the Baron Art menu it's listed as "Vertical Labret (Lower Centered or Upper Side / Angel Fang)" and priced per placement, so a pair counts as two piercings. It's a surface-style lip piercing: neither end sits inside the mouth, which is the main difference from a Monroe, Madonna, or standard labret.

Placement

Angel fangs piercing placement

Both piercings are placed symmetrically on the upper lip, roughly under the outer edge of each nostril, though the exact spot depends on your lip shape and how you smile. The piercer marks both sides and checks the symmetry with you before piercing.

Because the barbell passes vertically through the lip edge rather than through to the inside of the mouth, angel fangs don't touch your teeth or gums the way an oral labret can.

Pain

Do angel fangs hurt?

Pain is subjective, but most clients describe each vertical labret as a sharp pinch that fades quickly. The upper lip has more nerve endings than the lower lip, so many people rate angel fangs a little higher than a standard labret, and getting two in one session means two pinches.

Expect noticeable swelling for the first few days — that's normal for any lip piercing and the reason the starter barbells are fitted long.

Healing

Angel fangs piercing healing time

Typically 6–8 weeks to settle, and up to 3 months to heal fully.

Downsize the starter barbells at about 2–4 weeks, once the swelling drops, so the extra length stops catching.

Vertical labrets heal on two skin surfaces, so keep both entry points clean with sterile saline twice a day and pat dry.

Avoid spicy, acidic, and messy food, plus smoking, vaping, and alcohol, for the first two weeks; rinse with water after eating and keep lip products off the piercings.

Your piercer's own instructions always take precedence over this guide.

Jewelry

Angel fangs piercing jewelry

Angel fangs are pierced with curved barbells — one per side — fitted deliberately long to allow for swelling, then shortened at the downsize appointment. Implant-grade titanium is the standard starter metal; 14k gold is available.

Jewelry is chosen in-studio and priced separately from the service fee: titanium starts at $15–$25 and 14k gold at $65–$70, depending on the studio. Baron Art only uses jewelry purchased from the studio.

For piercings done at Baron Art, the downsizing service fee is waived — you only pay for the shorter barbells and get 15% off replacement jewelry.

Cost

How much do angel fangs cost?

Angel fangs piercing costs $40–$60 depending on the studio per placement (2 placements for the full set), jewelry excluded. Every studio lists it under the same menu line, so the only difference is the studio's per-placement fee. See all lip piercing prices.

Every studio caps the piercing service charge per session for up to 3 piercings ($40 at most studios, $60 in Berkeley; dermal, surface, and genital piercings are excluded — see each menu's Piercing special for conditions).

Angel fangs vs. angel bites

Angel bites are the other paired upper-lip piercing and the two get mixed up constantly. Angel bites are a Monroe and a Madonna together — two studs on the upper lip, each going straight through to the inside of the mouth with a flat disc resting against the gum. Angel fangs are two vertical labrets: the barbell runs up through the lip edge and both ends stay on the outside.

Both are priced per placement on the Baron Art menu. Angel bites use the "Monroe / Madonna / Upper Side Labret" line ($40–$60 depending on the studio each), angel fangs the vertical labret line ($40–$60 depending on the studio each). Angel bites need the oral aftercare routine too, because they open inside the mouth; angel fangs don't.

Do angel fang piercings hurt?

Most clients describe each side as a sharp pinch that fades within seconds, rated a little higher than a standard labret because the upper lip is more sensitive. The swelling over the first few days is usually the more noticeable part, and it settles quickly with cold water and rest.

How long do angel fangs take to heal?

Typically 6–8 weeks to settle and up to 3 months to heal fully. The starter barbells are downsized at around 2–4 weeks once the swelling is gone; downsizing is free for piercings done at Baron Art.

Aftercare

Angel fangs follows the lip routine: Typically 6–8 weeks; vertical labrets can take up to 3 months. The starter post is deliberately long; downsize at 2–4 weeks once swelling drops, or it will rub your teeth and gums.
