What it is
What are angel fangs?
An angel fangs piercing is two vertical labret piercings placed on the upper lip, one either side of the philtrum (the groove under the nose). Each piercing enters at the edge of the lip and exits on the skin just above it, so a curved barbell shows a bead on the lip and a bead above it. Together the two barbells look like fangs.
On the Baron Art menu it's listed as "Vertical Labret (Lower Centered or Upper Side / Angel Fang)" and priced per placement, so a pair counts as two piercings. It's a surface-style lip piercing: neither end sits inside the mouth, which is the main difference from a Monroe, Madonna, or standard labret.
Placement
Angel fangs piercing placement
Both piercings are placed symmetrically on the upper lip, roughly under the outer edge of each nostril, though the exact spot depends on your lip shape and how you smile. The piercer marks both sides and checks the symmetry with you before piercing.
Because the barbell passes vertically through the lip edge rather than through to the inside of the mouth, angel fangs don't touch your teeth or gums the way an oral labret can.
Pain
Do angel fangs hurt?
Pain is subjective, but most clients describe each vertical labret as a sharp pinch that fades quickly. The upper lip has more nerve endings than the lower lip, so many people rate angel fangs a little higher than a standard labret, and getting two in one session means two pinches.
Expect noticeable swelling for the first few days — that's normal for any lip piercing and the reason the starter barbells are fitted long.
Healing
Angel fangs piercing healing time
Typically 6–8 weeks to settle, and up to 3 months to heal fully.
Downsize the starter barbells at about 2–4 weeks, once the swelling drops, so the extra length stops catching.
Vertical labrets heal on two skin surfaces, so keep both entry points clean with sterile saline twice a day and pat dry.
Avoid spicy, acidic, and messy food, plus smoking, vaping, and alcohol, for the first two weeks; rinse with water after eating and keep lip products off the piercings.
Your piercer's own instructions always take precedence over this guide.
Jewelry
Angel fangs piercing jewelry
Angel fangs are pierced with curved barbells — one per side — fitted deliberately long to allow for swelling, then shortened at the downsize appointment. Implant-grade titanium is the standard starter metal; 14k gold is available.
Jewelry is chosen in-studio and priced separately from the service fee: titanium starts at $15–$25 and 14k gold at $65–$70, depending on the studio. Baron Art only uses jewelry purchased from the studio.
For piercings done at Baron Art, the downsizing service fee is waived — you only pay for the shorter barbells and get 15% off replacement jewelry.
